Tournament

The Spring 2026 Spring Grandmasters (over 45 as of Jan 1/26) Basketball Tournament is in full swing.  The tournament is spread over a 11 day period. The dates are April 8, 9, 10, 11,12, 15,16, 17 & 18.  Players are guaranteed 5 games plus a jersey and a commemorative Jim Walker Memorial T-Shirt.  If you are there for the final a nice door prize.  We have two divisions.  They are Over 60 and Over 45.

The tournament is designed to be a competitive but fun weekend.  We have 12 teams with 9 players on each team.  We play 5 games over the five-day period.  It can be stressful on our aching joints.  The Over 60 group will consist of 4 teams with 9 players.

Our finals start at 2:30 pm on Sunday the 19th.  Refreshments supplied by Lars MacDonald, Assante Financial Bedford.  We have two 3-Point contests - one for the kids and one for the players. 

The Team Jerseys for the 2026 tournament are sponsored by Steel Hyundai and Kerr Controls.  They were designed and created by Josh Forbes of R&M Rubber Stamp.  The Jim Walker Memorial design and log we designed by Josh Forbes.

Would like to thank everybody who participated over the weekend.  We had a great event, lots of fans and great camaraderie.  We had the inaugural Jim Walker Memorial Tournament for the over 60 crew plus our traditional O45 division.  We had 4 teams in the JWM division and 12 in the O45 division.  They were all evenly matched teams that fought hard in every game to go for the GOLD and eventual bragging rights!

Our scorers did a great job keeping the games organized and statistically correct.  Many thanks to Suzy Cook, Julia Sampson, Christian Honig, Liam and Harrison.

We played games from April 2 to 13 over two weekends.  All teams were guaranteed five games in the O45 division and three in the JWM division.  Our final in the JWM division pitted long-time team reps TEAM MAVS (Gerry Macdonell) and TEAM HEAT (Larry Coles) against each other for all the prizes.  In the end the MAVS prevailed and hoisted the first ever Jim Walker Trophy.

The O45 Championship had a newbie match-up.  TEAM SUNS led by rookie Rep Dermot Williams against TEAM RAPTORS and Sophomore rep Craig Sampson.  The game was closely fought until the Team Sampson pulled away in the 4th quarter.
