Hi All
Being from away I only met Jim when I entered the league around 2002. My first few seasons I had Jim on my team and I truly got to know him. What he stood for, what he wanted the league to achieve and his overall love of the sport. Jim was a tough competitor and more than once would have heated discussions with the refs. That’s where it stopped. He was everyone’s friend and he was a mentor to many. Jim asked me to take over the league when he was having a hard time with his feet. He stayed for a few years to keep an eye on me and would check up a few times every year to see how things were going. Every time I do something with the league my first thought is what would Jim do?
Our basketball community is devasted that we lost Jim on January 8th, 2025.
Jim lives on with all of us and his legacy of the Grandmasters league will never be forgotten. Jim and John Cassidy created the league and it's mission in 1987. I have had many messages all stating their own sense of what Jim meant to them personally.
Jim’s spirit will live on within the walls of Studley Gymnasium.
Jim always said - “A tie is a win and the best result”
